Opening day weekend at the Fair

What a great day on opening day weekend at the San Diego County Fair! The new Out Of This World theme is very fun with lots of interesting characters wandering the fairgrounds along with a great theme exhibit to explore!
So, please don’t judge me but … I have never tried the fair deep-fried food!!! YES! Believe it or not, this local-grown San Diego girl has never tried the fried foods at the fair!
I’ve always tried to be a healthy livin’ mama, but this trip to the fair quickly became my cheat day!
Let’s just say it is part of my bucket list. he he
What did I try?? Well, first we tried the deep fried pineapple. A little too rich for me since it is drizzled with chocolate and coconut shavings … but very pretty and delicious-looking.
I enjoyed 1 pineapple ring. Even my chocolate loving toddler was happy with only 1 bite. The hubbster finished our serving.
Next … we tried some deep-fried koolaid. The first thing I thought was … really? How? But surprisingly …this was good! Tasted a lot like sweet bread with pixie stick sugar on top! Oh, did the kids love this …
but this mama only gave them one piece each. With that extra dose of pixie stick sugar on top, I definitely would have found myself saying “why me??”, later that day, if I would have allowed them to have more.
They also had deep-fried cereal and bacon covered turkey legs … but after the 2 treats we enjoyed, we had enough of the fried goods!
There were plenty of entertaining shows at each stage! First, we watched the swifty swines search for the oreo cookie hidden among the hay. Probably one of the cutest races I have ever seen!
The whole crowd was loving this event.
We also took a cameo over to see Mark Yuzuik, the master hypnotist. Seriously, this guy is good! He had the entire crowd laughing out loud the entire show!!!!
One lady thought her chair was shocking her bum, another was certain she was a professional air guitarist,
all while one poor guy was deathly afraid of rats and saw a very large one run across the stage every time Mark, the hypnotist, rubbed his thumb on this forehead.
There wasn’t any sitting room and barely any standing room, so if you plan to see this show go early and find a seat. Definitely a show to watch!!
Now, I definitely want to make a couple more trips to the fair this season … I am thinking maybe a girls’ trip … and here’s why …
I HAVE TO DO THE SLINGSHOT!!!!!
Come on ladies, let’s plan a Mom’s Day Out and go!! It’s next on my bucket list!
The fair is great this year! Have you made the trip yet? Share with us!

We’ve gone twice already! I LOVE the fair. Our first trip we scoped out the place and today we went back to buy a few things we saw and liked and also for Talia to ride a few rides since she’s tall enough this year. The hubs and I will most likely be back again for the rides.
The Bacon wrapped Turkey was good, I had a couple bites but it was my brother and husband who finished the whole thing. I tried the gouda stuffed portabello mushrooms that was wrapped in bacon, it was pretty good.
